Spring cleaning

Hi everyone,

It’s time for spring cleaning.  Time to declutter. Time to decompress. This is the time for spiritual cleaning, emotional cleaning, physical cleaning, and mental cleaning.  Take your pick.

Here are some steps you can take to help you spring into action. Let’s start with Spiritual wellness tools & techniques:

  1. Meditation – listening to our inner selves
  2. Yoga – moving meditation
  3. Prayer – talking
  4. Building community

Spiritual wellness – defined as a connection to higher consciousness, God, higher self.  According to Cicero: “Diseases of the soul are more dangerous and more numerous than those of the body”.  Purposely managing our spiritual health is vital to your existence. Neglecting our spiritual health can lead to depression, and sickness. Meaning that we must make time to manage our spiritual health.

Emotional wellness, this is our heart.  This is our emotions & relationships with self and others. Here are a few techniques you can use to maintain your emotional well being:

  1. Building gut trust – your instincts are usually right. Create space for what your gut is telling you. Sometimes you have to sleep on it or take  a walk, etc.
  2. Setting or instituting healthy boundaries – know your limits. Contemplate what you can tolerate and accept, and what makes you feel uncomfortable or stressed. Feeling uncomfortable is a cue that someone may be violating or crossing a boundary.

Physical wellness – the ability to maintain a healthy quality of life that allows us to get the most out of our daily activities without fatigues or stress. “A healthy outside starts from the inside”. – Robert Urich

Tools and Techniques to consider when looking to achieve physical well being:

  1. Fitness Coaching
  2. Nutritional Coaching
  3. Time Management
  4. Value Based “To Do” lists
  5. Stress Reduction

Mental Health wellness – harmony in our thoughts, and thought patterns. The secret of health in both mind and body is to live in the present “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”  – Book of Proverbs, 23:7  Do not mourn the past or worry about the future.

See the following health and wellness techniques for the mental system:

  1. Language Patterns – learn how to choose words thoughtfully, and eventually your thoughts and behaviors will become as positive as your language.
  2. Thought Pattern Choices -Thinking with your feelings – This occurs when you believe your negative thoughts without ever questioning them, usually thoughts that start with the words “I feel”.  Feelings sometimes lie to you, but they are just feelings, not necessarily the truth.  When you correct negative thoughts, you take away their power over you. You don’t have to believe every thought that goes through your head.

The root of all health is in the brain. The trunk of it is in emotion. The branches and leaves are the body. The flower of health blooms when all parts work together. – Kurdish saying
