What it means to be a Mother

Hi everyone,

The month of May inspired me to dedicate this post to all mothers. What is the definition of Mother: selfless, confidante, abundance, infinity, loving, patience, kindness, caring, coach, cheerleader, disciplinarian, friend, problem solver, confidence, unconditional, soft, talkative, quiet, calmness, chef, doctor, nurse, therapist, creator, teacher, driver, champion, planner, and the list goes on and on. We can all be mothers by definition, but not everyone is capable of mothering. The definition of mothering: the nurturing of a person by it’s mother.

Mothering is a special gift.  A gift that resides in your heart. Not everyone possesses this gift and therefore not everyone can do this job. Mothering is a skill that is learned and passed on from mother to mother; mother to daughter; and many times fathers to daughters. There are also plenty of variations that are not mentioned here.

Why is it so vital that you are nurtured? Nurturing is the most important factor in the determination of an individual’s personality and behavior.  A mother’s nurturing is the foundation.  The solid place where a child begins to build themselves up, evolving mentally/emotionally/spiritually. If the foundation is weak it is unlikely that an individual will live a fulfilled life let alone finding and fulfilling their purpose.

Only to the degree that people have what they need, that they are healthy, and unafraid, that their lives are varied, interesting, meaningful, productive, and joyous can we begin to judge or even guess, their nature. ~John Holt

If we could bottle and sell “mothering”, the world would be a better a place to live in.  Happy Mother’s Day 2017! The most important job you will ever possess!

Please share your thoughts and ideas on this topic. We can all learn from each other. Thank you.
