Hi everyone,
What are we discouraged about? Are the people in our lives a disappointment? Let down by our friends and family. Is it our career paths? Not getting job opportunities or promotions. Do you feel like you’ve taken 2 steps forward and 10 steps back? Are we feeling like even when we’re putting our best foot forward the result/outcome is unfavorable. Things aren’t turning out the way we hoped they would. Are you questioning your worth/value? My response to this is that you haven’t lost anything. It feels like a lost but its really a win!! Call it the prep or test run for the bigger and better things that life has to offer you. This might sound a bit to the left, but it’s true! Discouragement can suck the life out of you, but you need to suck the life out of discouragement. Use it for what it’s worth, the win for next time! It’s an opportunity to learn and build yourself up. Michelle Obama said it best,
Do not die in the history of your past hurts and past experiences, but live in the now and future of your destiny.
Don’t let a moment of despair creep into your life and still your joy. Use this moment of discouragement as feedback. Feedback that will help mold your best life yet to come.
Discouragement happens to the strongest, and smartest of people. Here are some steps you can take when you feel the cloud of discouragement charging in.
- Take care of your mind and body. Sometimes these circumstances can drain us. Rest, eat well, pray, or meditate.
- Pay attention to your thought life. It’s important that we pay attention to the stories that we are telling ourselves. Turn that switch off.
- See life out of 2 lens to have a broader perspective on things. Remember what you are experiencing is temporary and not fixed.
- The truth is life is exhausting, and discouraging at times but the best way to drive off a gloomy feeling is with another feeling. Gratitude is a potent remedy for discouragement. We may not be able to give “God/Jehovah/Allah/Buddha” thanks for the difficult times that we find ourselves in, but we can learn to recognize things we can be thankful for.
I’m asking you stare discouragement in the face, and start your face off! Let me know who wins in the end.
